Health Coding for Accurate Billing

My Role: I was the primary UX professional so I conducted most of these activities. I did have some help with the sketching from the rest of the team.

Executive Summary: Consider an environment where patient procedures don't always match what is billed. The goal of this project was to help fix that and do it effectively. Healthcare professionals, understandably, often see the billing aspect of patient care as cumbersome & confusing. We improved the experience by replacing an older system. This project involved on-site testing at many locations throughout Dallas. Getting up early in the morning to meet practitioners was often the only time they could meet.

Process: Usability testing, user interviews, sketching, visual design, & digital prototyping were all aspects of this work. This was the order of activities along with testing near the end of the project.

Challenges: Working with healthcare professionals comes with its set of challenges. There schedules are constrained and they are experts in their fields so when they decide on a solution it can be hard to convince them otherwise. That's where testing came in. With enough research + modifying designs based on that research they were convinced that the designs met the needs of their needs.
